Visiting Care

Providing visiting care in your home

Our visiting care is all about companionship and helping you cope at home. You may have a long-term condition or are recovering from a hospital visit or major operation. Any of these will mean you need a bit of extra support for everyday tasks you find difficult to complete.

Nobody likes to admit they can’t cope or need extra help around the house. Often this is all you need to ensure you remain safe and comfortable in your own home. It gives you and your family peace of mind to know that regular support is on hand day or night.

Why would you need visiting care?

Visiting care is there for those who just need a little more help so they can continue to live an independent life. You may have a progressive condition such as dementia or multiple sclerosis. Which means keeping active is important to you but you need help to do this.

There are many occasions when circumstances are beyond our control. If you have suffered a major accident or need extensive surgery, coming home as soon as possible is always a great therapy. This might be difficult without extra support, but this is something we will help you with.

All our caregivers are fully trained and ready for any situation. Once we have set-up your Care Plan, they know exactly what you want and when to visit. Your well-being is always our priority so they also understand that your needs may change.

“Very professional and helpful. Meets my son’s needs to a very high standard.”

The type of support you can expect

You may have problems with your mobility that restricts what you can do or are unable to manage simple tasks within the house. We work with clients to deliver a range of services.

Personal care any time of the day, when you need it.

Medication management.

Accessing your local environment and community.

Companionship and emotional support.

Preparing and cooking meals.

Assistance with shopping and general housekeeping.

Administrative support – liaising with healthcare professionals.

You are in control of your Care Plan and can tell us how involved you want to be with daily tasks. This is about support for you and being able to continue doing as much as you can. We simply help you to do this.

How we organise visiting care for you

Once you have made contact with us, there will be an initial conversation over the telephone. There are usually more questions than answers at this stage and we are more than happy to give you all the information. Visiting care support covers so many different needs. We will help you understand the best solution for you.

A referral to your local office will be the next step. It’s important to put you in contact with people who know the area and are already helping clients in your community. They will also be your main point of contact going forward, should you have any questions or concerns.

Our local manager will arrange a home visit. This will allow us to have a more in-depth discussion about your needs and understand how best we can support you.

After the visit has taken place, we create your Care Plan. This will detail what is expected of the caregiver we assign to you. Providing them with as much information as possible about you to ensure you are fully supported.

A care folder is part of our service which will be stored at your house. Each time a caregiver visits you, this is logged and any relevant comments recorded. We also use smart mobile phone technology to track and monitor your care visits. This enables us to inform you should our caregivers be delayed due to the weather or road conditions.

Depending on how many hours and the frequency of visits, we usually allocate 3 caregivers for each client. This will ensure you receive continuity of care and that a familiar face is entering your home each time. The Care Plan can be reviewed at any time, particularly if your needs change.

Adapting to your needs

If you have to be admitted to hospital, we will always try to keep your caregiver slot open. When you return home, your needs may have changed. In this situation, we will carry out a further assessment and create a new Care Plan.

Over a period of time, you may feel differently about the level of care you are receiving. Some of our clients feel confident enough to reduce their support package while others recognise that they need more help. We will remain flexible and adapt the level of help you receive.

Frequently asked questions

Will my care calls be the same time each day?

On the assessment, we will agree a time and this will be your allocated time each day. We have a 15-minute tolerance before and after the allocated time to allow for a bit of leeway in case of external factors, i.e. traffic.

Will I be informed if my carer is running late?

Yes, we ask all of our carers to inform us if they are running late and in that instance, we will call you to let you know.

Will I have the same carers each day?

Depending on the size of the care package, we will allocate a minimum number of carers to ensure we can cover weekends, sickness, annual leave and other circumstances out of our control. However, we do like to provide continuity with carers and aim to allocate regular carers as much as possible.

Do I have to have a key safe for carers to let themselves in with?

If you are able to let the carers in or have a family member living with you who is able to, then it is not necessary to have one.

How will my carers know what to do on my care calls?

Once the assessment has been carried out, your care folder will be created which includes a tailored care and support plan. Within this, your wishes, preferences, likes, dislikes and needs are recorded.

Who do I contact if I have any questions or concerns?

You will be provided with the numbers of the on-call phone and office and are encouraged to ring one of those numbers with any questions or concerns you may have.

Can my carers complete referrals to other healthcare professionals if needed?

We encourage our carers to inform the on-call phone with any changes or concerns in relation to any aspect of care. Following this, if it is needed Mega Care will complete any referrals with your consent.

Can the carer carry out any domestic tasks?

We encourage our carers to offer support with small domestic tasks with any remaining time on care calls, i.e. hoovering, dusting, loading and unloading the dishwasher, etc.

If I no longer require care, what notice period do you require?

We require 4 weeks’ notice.

If I am a private client, will I receive a contract with yourselves?

Yes, on the assessment you will be given a contract which you will be required to sign. The contract will be collected before your care begins, or on the first care call.
